Brass Construction - Movin'

My Review of 'Movin' by Brass Construction

I think the song is definitely a classic funk track with all the right ingredients. Great guitar riffs, strong horns, great rhythms, uptempo with excellent vocals. The synth adds a whole other dimension too.

Classic disco funk!

Mini Biography for 'Brass Construction'

Brass construction were headed by Randy Muller. Randy was born in Guyana, and moved to New York at the age of seven where he attended the George Gershwin Junior High School in Brooklyn. Teaming up with school mate Randy formed the band 'Dynamic Souls' who later became 'Brass Construction' in 1974 and went on to produce their first single 'Tale Tellin' women' on Jeff Lane's label Dock records.Jeff Lane went on to produce their first album, 'Brass Construction' which was released on the United Artists record label, and it was a huge success and went platinum. It contained the massively popular single '
Movin' which reached number 1 in the US R&B chart and number 14 in the Billboard chart. The follow up album 'Brass Construction II' was just as successful and is considered the best album they did. However the next few albums seemed to lack the intensity and energy of the first, and the bands popularity dipped until the release of 'Brass Construction 5' in 1979 which is seen as an album that recaptured the original essence of the band.

The band recorded 4 more albums throughout the early 80's and quite a number of compilations. Many of the hits have been re-issued and re-mixed. The band stayed with United Artists until joined with EMI.

Randy Muller went on to write, produce and arrange for the bands Skyy' and 'B.T Express' and '(Rafael) Cameron'; providing flute, piano and vocals when needed. Larry Payton also went on to play with Skyy and Jeff Lane produced a number of artists including 'BT Express' on their single 'Do It ('Til You're Satisfied), and also worked with 'Funky People'.
